RAF Valley Hawks, USAF F-15E and exploring more locations around the MACH LOOP! | 23.04.2026
We begin at a windswept Bwlch Exit, with a fairly manageable climb to the point, and panoramic views across to Spur, and out towards Barmouth and the imposing Cadair Idris.
It’s quite tight here to catch aircraft approaching from Bluebell and Bwlch, but a good view as they pass and turn either left into the Cads, right towards Bala or continue towards the coast.
There had been hopes for a SAC C-17 today in the area but this sadly cancelled so local traffic kept us entertained in the form of RAF Valley Hawks, before American F-15s arrived in the area for high level general handling. Despite declaring intentions to enter the Mach Loop low level, the majority returned to base citing low fuel, leaving one to give us a single pass before heading back to RAF Lakenheath, following a rather irregular prop plane through!
With a lul in proceedings, the radio quiet and the tracking apps looking pretty empty, @ZMaviation and I decided to take advantage of the nice afternoon weather, and took out first ever trip up to Cad East, via the trail through the farmers gates, where we were very fortunate to get a couple of Hawks as we arrived up there to close off the day. Not a huge abundance of aircraft by any means but certainly nice to tick off a couple of new spots on the circuit today for the first Loop trip of the year! | 23.04.2026
