On Tuesday 10th Dec, Rail Adventure Power Cars 43468 + 43480 were sent down to Laira Depot, where the clear out continues as GWR phase out the Class 43s for the Class 175s. We see them returning top and tailed through Taunton today with an interesting consist of GWR 43162 ex ‘Caerhays Castle’ + 43160 ex ‘Castle-an-Dinas’ + x2 ex Caledonian Sleeper Mk 3s 10553 + 10551 sandwiched in between, working the 5Q44 Laira Traction & Rolling Stock Maintenance Depot - Mid Norfolk Railway Sidings Wymondham.

Not long after, ex DRS 37425 ‘Concrete Bob/ Sir William McAlpline’ made a very welcome appearance at Taunton, working the 5Z11 Bristol Kingsland Road and return via Taunton and Westbury. The locomotive arrived at the head of the UTU stock, before reversing the consist pushing DBSO 9702 back out via Westbury.

We then head over to Bridgwater to see Direct Rail Services 68009 ‘Titan’ + 68034 ‘Rail Riders 2020’ on Thursdays 6M63 Bridgwater Freight Depot - Crewe Coal Sidings top and tailed between x2 FNA nuclear flask wagons, bringing to a close a cracking couple of hours in Somerset for traction today! | 12.12.2024
