Autoballasting work at a Dusty Flint Station with Freightliner locomotives 66550 + 66596 Top & Tail
Something abit different with freightliner locomotives 66550 & 66596 top & tail dropping ballast along the line at Flint station
Head code
6Y60 - Crewe Basford Hall SSM to Crewe Basford Hall SSM
GERS Network Rail Autoballasters were converted from Tiphook KPA originally built by Fauvet Girel c1988
An auto ballaster is a set of purpose built hopper wagons that accurately lay and distribute ballast onto a track formation. Each wagon has four hopper sections into which new, recycled or cleaned ballast is loaded from the top. Each hopper has controlled discharge doors with additional chutes to direct and regulate the flow of the ballast as it is unloaded onto the track

This video shows freightliner locomotives 66550 and 66596 working in a top-and-tail configuration during autoballasting operations at Flint station. The process involves specialised hopper wagons distributing ballast onto the track formation. Network Rail's autoballasters, originally built by Fauvet Girel in 1988, are used for this task. The headcode 6Y60 is associated with the movement between Crewe Basford Hall SSM and itself. The footage captures a different aspect of railway maintenance involving these locomotives and equipment.
