BR Class 47 Locomotives in the Pre-Digital Age
(1986-1994)
Volume BR45-01
Another feature in this new series of Vintage Traction from the pre digital era, from the mid 1980's to the turn of the millenium, when the digital age started to put an end to analogue video...
This feature is on the Brush Type 4 Locomotive Class 47, built between 1963 and 1967, either at the Brush Works in Loughborough or at BR Crewe. These Locomotives worked all over the BR Network from Penzance, to the North of Scotland, hauling all types of freight and passenger trains. A total of 512 of the class were built and many survive still today and can run on the mainline. Some of the 47's were converted into Class 57's which still haul the Cornish Sleeper Train from London Paddington to Penzance and V.V.
This feature covers the period from around 1986 to 1994 and only covers a small fraction of the Library I have accumalated of this versatile Class. I do hope you enjoy the feature and please comment and like, if you feel the video was of some enjoyment and nostalgia to watch.
This video features BR Class 47 locomotives, a versatile diesel-electric type built between 1963 and 1967, operating across the British Rail network during the pre-digital era from around 1986 to 1994. The footage highlights their widespread use in both freight and passenger services, with examples of specific locomotives including 47237, 47503, and 47701. Locations referenced include Loughborough, Crewe, Penzance, London Paddington, and others across the UK. Some Class 47s were later converted into Class 57s, which continue to operate services such as the Cornish Sleeper Train.
