Description
With the 2024 gala season drawing to its end, the East Lancashire Railway host their Autumn Steam Gala event, with a varied mix of guest locomotives for visitors to enjoy. The highlight for many was the attendance of Britain's oldest operational steam locomotive, in the form of 1863 built Furness Railway No.20, courtesy of the Furness Railway Trust.

The Victorian engine, usually based at the Ribble Steam Railway, was joined with fellow Preston based loco, recently returned to traffic Andrew Barclay No.1969 'JN Derbyshire'. Much like a Bulleid of recent memory, No.1969 carries a unique purple livery, which is based on a colour scheme the locomotive carried in the early 1980s during her time at Carnforth Steamtown following withdrawal from service. A final guest locomotive came in the form of Single Chimney BR Standard 9F 92134 from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Running alongside the three guest locomotives were various members of the ELR home fleet, including LMS 3F Jinty 47298, SR Bulleid Unrebuilt Light Pacific 34092 'City of Wells' and L&Y Saddletank 11456, recently repainted into LMS livery.
