LBSCR Atlantic 32424 'Beachy Head' Launch | Bluebell Railway - Brighton Works Weekend - 24/08/24

66 years on from the withdrawal and scrapping of the final LBSCR H2 Atlantic in traffic, 32424 'Beachy Head's 21st Century counterpart hauls her first public services during the Bluebell Railway's Brighton Works Weekend.

With none of the six original Brighton built H2s surviving into preservation, a group based at the Bluebell set to fill the gap, building a brand new member of the class, utilising a GNR Atlantic boiler and LBSCR B4 tender frames as a basis. After 24 years, 32424 'Beachy Head' would pick up from when the original locomotive ended, turned out in BR condition, as the original had looked in 1958.

Running alongside 32424 were numerous other members of the Bluebell's home fleet, all with their own connections to Brighton Works: LBSCR Terrier No.72 'Fenchurch', the oldest operational locomotive to be built at Brighton, Bulleid Light Pacific 34059 'Sir Archibald Sinclair', originally built in Brighton in 1947 before later being rebuilt at Eastleigh in 1960, and BR Standard 4MT Tank 80151 running under the identity of scrapped sister 80154, which was the final locomotive to be built at Brighton Works in 1957.
