Barrow Hill Roundhouse - Reopening Weekend - 07/08/21

After being closed to the public throughout the last year and a half, Barrow Hill Roundhouse opened its doors to visitors once again, with a wide selection of steam, diesel and electric locomotives on display around the site. Here we see a number of locomotives within the roundhouse itself, including Midland Compound 1000, Great Central Railway 506 'Butler Henderson' and GWR Large Prairie 5164, along with resident shunter 03066 sat on the turntable and Midland 1F 41708 currently under overhaul.

The Deltic Preservation Society also welcomed visitors to their shed, with 55019 'Royal Highland Fusilier' powered up, whilst work continued on D9009 'Alycidon' and D9015 'Tulyar'. The refurbished cab of 55008 'The Green Howards' was also on display alongside the society's collection of Napier Deltic engines. Outside, recently overhauled 89001 'Avocet' could be seen carrying InterCity Swallow, as well as numerous class 20s, including a number of those currently in storage by DRS.
