Great Central Railway - Winter Steam Gala 2026 - 23&25/01/26
This years event marked 60 years since the closure of the GCR's Annesley shed in Nottinghamshire, with star of the weekend, BR Standard 9F 92134 from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, appearing in the guise of 92043; One of the final locomotives to leave the shed before closure in 1966. With the 9F facing north (To much online discussion), the opportunity was available to get different shots compared to those from the loco's previous visit to the railway in 2021.
Another return guest was Bulleid Light Pacific 34072 '257 Squadron', having previously appeared at the 2022 Winter Steam Gala. Running along with home fleet BR Standard 5MT 73156, the pair made for some Somerset & Dorset views, running an express services the full length of the line from Loughborough to Leicester during the weekend.
Appearing alongside both mainline guest locos was Hunsley Austerity No. 3809, having returned to service in 2024 before being hired to the North Norfolk Railway. 3809 joins home fleet Austerity 68067, with both tanks running together, as well as taking charge of the railway's tank wagon and 'Windcutter' mineral wagon trains throughout the event.
The GCR's usual home fleet would additionally feature, running a variety of passenger and freight services. With the railway's double track running and timetable delays, the weekend required quickscoper-like reflexes to catch planned shots, making for a very busy couple of days filming from the lineside.
