Bulleid Baker's Dozen | Every Operational Bulleid Pacific of 2024

The past 12 months have provided an impressive display of the Southern Region's Bulleid Pacific locomotives, with thirteen examples of West Country, Battle of Britain and Merchant Navy Classes all making appearances on both the mainline and heritage railway circuit.

Highlight events from the year include a grand gathering of eight Bulleid Pacifics at the Strictly Bulleid II Gala at the Swanage Railway back in June. 2024 also saw 34053 'Sir Keith Park' renamed as '303 Squadron' at the Spa Valley Railway, in honor of Polish and Czech pilots and personnel who fought in the RAF during the Battle of Britain.

At the Bluebell Railway, 34059 'Sir Archibald Sinclair' returned to service following completion of an overhaul, having previously been withdrawn prematurely in 2011, and as 34059 was welcomed into traffic, Severn Valley Railway based 34027 'Taw Valley' bowed out, making a final appearance at the railway's Spring Steam Gala sporting fictional Southern Wartime Black livery.
