Description
The 2024 Cotswold Festival of Steam sees a gathering of Western Workhorses, with the GWR's 2-Cylinder 4-6-0s well represented in the gala line-up, with a Modified Hall, Saint, Grange and Manor. The event also saw the gathering of three new-build locomotives, in the form of Saint Class 2999 'Lady of Legend', West Somerset Railway Mogul 9351, and fresh out the works, Grange Class 6880 'Betton Grange'.

Undoubtedly the star attraction for many people was the chance to see and ride GWR Grange Class 6880 'Betton Grange', running her first public services at the event, following the long anticipated completion of her build at Tyseley. 6880 fills a gap of 2-Cylinder 4-6-0 GWR engines, with none of the original 80 Grange locomotives surviving into preservation. Work began in 2004, with the locomotive utilising the boiler from 7927 'Willington Hall'.

In addition to the three 'newbies', the roster was bolstered by the GWSR's home fleet, comprising of fellow Westerners Modified Hall Class 7903 'Foremarke Hall', Manor Class 7820 'Dinmore Manor' and 2800 Class 2807, in addition to Southern Railway's Merchant Navy Class 35006 'Peninsular & Oriental S.N. Co.
