Description
A double dose of steam in York, with British Railways Britannia Class 70000 'Britannia' running "The White Rose" from Shrewsbury, and LNER A4 60009 'Union of South Africa' running what is believed to be her final tour; "The Yorkshireman" from Ealing Broadway. Whilst Britannia's visits to the North East are few and far between, it was 60009 'Union of South Africa' which seemed to take the spotlight, with large crowds gathered all along the route to catch glimpse of the A4. "The Yorkshireman" was expected to be it's final tour before retirement.

Locomotive owner John Cameron had initially planned for 60009 to be displayed in a purpose built museum in Scotland, alongside his other mainline loco; LNER K4 61994 "The Great Marquess". Rumour however suggests that planning permissions have not allowed for this plan to go through, so the future of 60009 currently remains unknown. However with her extended boiler ticket due to expire in April, it's likely to be some time before she turns a wheel under her own steam again. Only time will tell...
