DB Cargo Takeover | Midland Railway Butterley - Ale on the Rails 200 - 19/07/25
Locomotives from DB Cargo would rotate onto services, operating with Nemesis Rail's Mk3a coaching stock, making their debut at the event. Also making a guest appearance was Class 44 D8 'Penyghent', running alongside home-based sister loco 44004 'Great Gable', the latter having operated with D8 for the first time in preservation earlier in the year at Peak Rail. Both peaks were joined by a third, Class 45 45108, in addition to Class 31 31108. Steam fans were also well catered for with the railway's flagship loco LMS 3F Jinty 16440 and CEGB No.15 'Eustace Forth' running shuttle services, allowing passengers a ride on the railway's Victorian coach set.
The event would also see the naming of DB Cargo Class 66 66091 as 'accurascale', with Accurascale themselves announcing a model of 66091 as part of their latest batch of OO Gauge Class 66 models. The ceremony was led by Mike Gray, DB Cargo Chief Transformation and Digitalisation Officer, Fran Burke, Accurascale Director of Communications and Pete Waterman, President of the Railway Benefit Fund.
On display around the yard at Swanwick were numerous locomotives, including visiting Class 66s, 67 and 92 courtesy of DB Cargo, along with many home based locomotives, several of which making rare appearances out of the site's exhibition hall, which is currently closed to the public for roof repairs. These included Woodhead Electric BR Class 77 EM2 27000 and Andrew Barclay Fireless loco Boots No.2.
Additionally making a rare appearance outdoors was LMS Princess Royal Class 46203 'Princess Margaret Rose', on display outside the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust's West Shed ahead of her upcoming appearance at The Greatest Gathering in Derby, with the Princess appearing alongside DB Cargo 66023.
