InterCity 125 Class 43 43065 + 43121 | Havant Southampton Rail Journey | 7th March 1999
At Farlington Junction 47831 Bolton Wanderer is heading the other way with the 1S97 1505 Poole - Glasgow virgin trains service which had also been diverted away from its usual route via Winchester, however ran direct to Fareham from Southampton. I believe the HSTs were not allowed to travel the direct route from Fareham to Southampton via Netley, which the class 47s traversed when diverted. Anyhow the reversal at Eastleigh allowed for the scheduled stop at Southampton Airport and for a Class 47 would take longer to reverse as would have to run round the stock.

A video captures an InterCity 125 HST service operated by Virgin Trains on 7th March 1999, featuring Class 43 power cars 43065 and 43121. The train was diverted from its usual route between Reading and Southampton via Winchester, instead taking a detour through Guildford, Havant, Fareham, and Eastleigh. Filmed from the outskirts of Havant to Southampton Central, the footage shows the service reversing at Eastleigh before continuing to its destination. Another Virgin Trains service, led by Class 47 locomotive 47831, is also noted as having taken a diverted route between Poole and Glasgow.
