A pair of class 20’s struggling up Gamston Bank in 2025! Who would have thought it?
20205 and 20007 were in charge of a rake of barrier vehicles forming the 6M30 York Yard North to Wembley Terminal Complex Wheel Lathe. Although leaving York on time, by the time it got to Retford it was running 21 minutes late and surprisingly it was brought into the north-bound platform 2 to allow other trains to overtake.
This then meant that when released back onto the main line the 20’s had to use full power for the climb up Gamston Bank. The sound was fantastic and they made a real treat for viewing. Turn up the volume and enjoy!

A pair of Class 20 locomotives, 20205 and 20007, were seen operating on the East Coast Main Line near Retford in late 2025. The trains were part of a service transporting barrier vehicles between York Yard North and Wembley Terminal Complex Wheel Lathe, with headcode 6M30. After experiencing delays, the locomotives had to exert full power to climb Gamston Bank upon resuming their journey. The event provided an opportunity for observers to hear and see these historic diesel engines in action.
