60163 'Tornado' + 60103 'Flying Scotsman' at Great Central Nottingham + the Model Railway Exhibition
Fresh from its honour of opening Darlington's Platform 6 last Friday, A1 Pacific 60163 ‘Tornado’ collected the World famous LNER A3 60103 ‘Flying Scotsman’ from the National Railway Museum on York later on Friday and the pair worked down to the Great Central Railway Nottingham, ready for 2 weeks of utilising the Pacific’s on services on the GCRN, on workings specially managed by Fox & Edwards Events.
This weekend the first of these events got underway with ‘Tornado’ in charge of services top and tailed with the resident Class 20, ‘Flying Scotsman’ on static display and open for footplate visits and the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre and Nottingham Model Railway Society hosting their Model Railway Exhibition, with various sheds and workshops full of layouts and sales stands, more than enough to tempt me over for a first time visit to the GCRN!
Enjoy coverage from a great day spent exploring this railway for the first time, with the A1 in action, a ride on the 13.00 to Loughborough with a view out across the Loughborough Brush works, action from the model railway show and lots more! | 17.05.2026
