Britannic Explorer Rounds off a Fantastic Day of Charters to Edinburgh at Carlisle 16 May 26
For me the icing on the cake was the appearance of the Britannic Explorer - the rail tour for those where money is no object. Normally on its Lake District tour it runs via Upperby Junction direct to London Road junction but today it comes into the Citadel to get both locos at the south end of the lilac train before it heads south for overnight stop at Appleby and its onward run south.

The Northern Belle operates from Manchester Victoria with Class 57 locomotives, while the Edinburgh Flyer runs via the Tyne Valley using Class 47s and a Class 37 for its return journey. The Britannic Explorer, typically running via Upperby Junction, arrives at Carlisle to collect both locomotives before heading south for an overnight stop at Appleby. Several other locomotives and headcodes are noted in the footage.
Fishplate has identified 13 locomotives in this video. We’ve also matched 8 headcodes and 8 operators . Create a free account to see where they appear, unlock timestamps and locations, and view the full breakdown.
