Description
A good couple of days of mainline action, kicking off on Tuesday afternoon during a journey back to the West country. Beginning at Northampton we see the returning LSL Chairman’s train with 57302 top and tailed with 90002 ‘Wolf of Badenoch’ on the ECS having completed the private railtour we saw on Monday https://youtu.be/heem72cTkOk?si=juIGwfQ28qGxo3uU and returning from Euston to Crewe. We caught the train up against at Rugby where by this point the weather had deteriorated, and the 57 was way out from the platform up at the signal, but we got a nice look at the 90 as the train pulled away before taking a look at a couple of stabled Freightliner Class 90s.

Later in the evening at Bristol we catch 37610 propelling the overnight UTU through Bristol Temple Meads working down to Taunton before heading back via Bristol in the morning to Cardiff.

The following morning on Wednesday, we were spoilt with a good mix of diesel traction at Bristol, picking up the action with LSL Class 47s 47810 ‘Crewe Diesel Depot’ and 47805 ‘Roger Hosking MA 1925 - 2013’ arriving from Southall with an ECS, before moving away to return, forming Saphos Trains 'Golden Arrow' railtour to Canterbury West with steam haulage from West London, originally scheduled to be 71000 ‘Duke of Gloucester’ who we saw last Saturday https://youtu.be/WYRcxkv26E8?si=WMrHMyVCXXk2oA8s but this failed its fitness to run exam and was replaced with 34046 ‘Braunton’.

37610 then arrives this time leading before making a spirited departure bound for Cardiff, before the LSL 47s return to pick up their passengers as the charter departs.

Later in the morning the highly anticipated pick up of the next pair of GBRF Class 99s was observed, with, for the first time, one of the previous arrivals 99004 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKoBYt5IIZA and star of the recent Swanage diesel gala https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGP2GrgsEXs&t=495s entrusted with the task of retrieving 99008 (which should of arrived with 007 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LYrDEEhk7M&t=73s) and 99009.

After a Colas Tamper passes we see the fantastic sight, and the first triple headed formation of three Class 99s under the recently refurbished Bristol Temple Meads train shed roof, before finishing with GBRF 66786 on a freight to Portbury, certainly a good morning for out of the ordinary movements at Bristol! | 19 - 20.05.2026
