58023 in PRESERVATION DEBUT making HISTORY at the SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY! THE BONE IS BACK 🦴

During this years Severn Valley Railway Autumn Diesel Bash event, one locomotive rightly stole the limelight today, as Class 58 58023 defied all the odds and made a preservation debut for the class hauling the first class 58 passenger train in the UK in well over 20 years, becoming the first 58 to operation in the UK since 2002 and making it’s first public appearance in preservation! When considering the majority of the class that went overseas were scrapped following storage, this achievement is a monumental preservation milestone by the Class 58 Locomotive Group, Severn Valley and everyone involved who made it a reality today!

Watch all the action filmed from the front coach of the 12.00 off Kidderminster, all the preparations and shunt movements as the Class 58 moves out and couples up to 20142 ‘Sir John Betjeman’ which was being used as a brake translator to allow the air-braked 58 to haul vacuum braked coaches and experience the atmosphere of the first run of a Class 58 in preservation as 58023 ‘Peterborough Depot’ (affectionately renamed ‘Leicester Depot’ as a nod to the locos new home depot) makes history on the Severn Valley Railway today on its maiden run! | 04.10.2024
