After the closure of the Settle & Carlisle line on the Armathwaite to Carlisle section for over a year due to a serious landslip, Friday 31st March 2017 seen the reopening of the line in full after a major reconstruction of a 300 metre stretch of the line Eden Brows.

To commemorate the reopening, LNER A3 Pacific No. 60103 'Flying Scotsman' ran from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway and over the the Settle & Carlisle line to Carlisle and return with a passenger excursion.

We see the excursion passing through Armathaite just south of the site of the landslip, and see the steam loco reverse through Carlisle Station on its way for servicing and turning. The final video clip is of the excursion on the return journey having just joined the S & C line at Durranhill a mile or so out of Carlisle Station.
