InterCity 125 Class 43 | Bedhampton | 18th April 1999
This service had been diverted from the usual Winchester route between Reading and Southampton Airport and ran via Guildford, Havant, Fareham and Eastleigh. I guess easy to switch ends at Eastleigh for a HST than for a Class 47 that would need to run round the stock, as when they ran diverted services they would travel direct to Southampton via Netley after Fareham, missing out the Southampton Airport stop. Also I believe the HSTs were not cleared to travel the direct route via Netley anyway.
A Class 43 HST, numbered 43084 County of Derbyshire, is shown leading an InterCity 125 service through Bedhampton on a diverted route. The train is part of the 1O08 Virgin Trains service running between Manchester and Bournemouth. The route bypasses the usual Winchester path between Reading and Southampton Airport, instead passing through Guildford, Havant, Fareham, and Eastleigh. The audio mentions considerations regarding operational differences between HSTs and other stock types on such routes.
