Tyne & Wear Metro - Tynemouth Metro Station & Weekend Market - 31 May 2025
The station was opened in July 1882 by the North Eastern Railway and has remained in constant use since and was incorporated into the Tyne & Wear Metro system in 1980, serving trains to North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Newcastle with other Metro connections to Wearside and Newcastle Airport.
The station has a Weekend Market that occupies a large area behind both platforms. The market can be seen in this video prior to it's 09.00 opening time.
In the video also a few of the original Metro cars heading to either South Shields or St. James in Newcastle City Centre. None of the new class 555 Metro cars came into the station in my hour there.
