This service had been diverted from the usual Winchester route between Reading and Southampton so ran via Guildford, Havant, Netley, and St Denys (missing out Southampton Airport) to head onto Southampton. HSTs were also diverted on this day but would run to Eastleigh and reverse which allowed for the Southampton Airport stop. I guess easy to switch ends at Eastleigh for a HST than for a Class 47 that would need to run round the stock, but I also believe the HSTs were not cleared to travel via the Netley line from Southampton to St Denys anyway.
