Banbury Lane Level Crossing

Channel: John K Wells
Player
Description
Prior to West Coast Main Line route improvements towards the end of the last century, Banbury Lane signalbox was in existence. Lying to the south of Rugby and the west of Northampton on what was referred to as the 'Old Line'. Signals either side of the level crossing were slotted with Rugby PSB with the barriers were operated by the signalman at Banbury Lane. On this day in November 1987, the box had little time left as it was soon due to be replaced and worked by remote CCTV from Rugby PSB. Following this, the crossing disappeared altogether as part of WCML route modifications and replaced by a road bridge.
