A4 60007 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ at Lancaster and Carlisle - The Cumbrian Mountaineer - 11/03/2026
The Steam took charge of the second half of the tour between Crewe and Carlisle as a Deltic was used for the first half from London to Crewe.
We started off at Lancaster Station where we captured the A4 storming through at speed before we headed off to Carlisle to capture it there as well. It was good to see the locomotive fully operating a tour under its own power without the use of a diesel on the rear. The only time it was needed was when SNG and its stock were being shunted to Upperby Depot for servicing. 37667 was the locomotive used for this.
Overall it was a brilliant day and I’m very happy to have finally caught a SNG tour at Carlisle.
My friend Owen was also with me during the day. You can find his channel here: https://youtube.com/@TrainspotterOwen17?si=-OpTScDD9P4LotZS

A railtour featuring steam locomotive 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' was filmed on a route covering Lancaster, Crewe, and Carlisle. The A4-powered journey included footage of the locomotive operating independently during the second half of the tour between Crewe and Carlisle, with a Deltic providing traction for the first leg from London to Crewe. Additional steam operations were captured at Lancaster and Carlisle stations, while Class 37 diesel locomotives 37667 and D6851 were used for shunting activities.
Fishplate has identified 2 locomotives in this video. We’ve also matched 3 headcodes and 4 operators . Create a free account to see where they appear, unlock timestamps and locations, and view the full breakdown.
