Double-heading right behind the leader is the Class 33/1 Preservation Company owned Class 33/1 Bo-Bo diesel-electric locomotive number 33108 (originally running under British Railways as D6521). Built in 1960 by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company (BRCW), this classic 77-tonne Southern Region "Crompton" is powered by a robust Sulzer 8LDA28 8-cylinder in-line diesel engine producing 1,550 brake horsepower (1,420 bhp operative). Operating with a maximum speed of 85 mph and exerting 45,000 lbf of tractive effort, this push-pull fitted asset looks pristine carrying the famous Civil Engineers 'Dutch' grey and yellow livery.
This magnificent pairing of classic Sulzer and EMD muscle is seen here in 8K 16:9 widescreen powering out of Hampton Loade station, working hard to accelerate a matching rake of beautiful varnished LNER Gresley teak coaches. The unique combination of vintage varnished wood and heavy dual-diesel horsepower creates an incredible auditory and visual spectacle as the train notches up and roars away into the late afternoon light. This memorable working was recorded during the acclaimed Severn Valley Railway Spring Diesel Gala on Saturday 16/05/2026 at 18:47.
