Description
British Rail Class 121 "Bubble Car" single-car DMU 121022 (ex-55022) was built in 1960 by the Pressed Steel Company. Powered by two horizontal 11.1-litre underfloor engines (150 hp each), it delivers a combined 300 brake horsepower through a mechanical epicyclic gearbox to reach a top speed of 70 mph. Its diverse previous liveries include BR Green with speed whiskers (later small yellow panels), BR Rail Blue (late 1960s), and BR Blue/Grey following a 1980 Swindon Works overhaul. It wore Network SouthEast (NSE) colors in the commuter era before moving to departmental route-learning/Sandite duties under Chiltern Railways as 977873 (set 960014). Instead of Chiltern's standard blue, it wore retro BR Blue/Grey featuring a discrete company logo and late-2004 promotional vinyls reading "Chiltern Railways - Serving Stratford from December 12th". Now operated by Locomotive Services Limited (LSL) as a premium chairman's luxury asset, the interior features executive lounge seating and a custom hospitality bar. The exterior is beautifully finished in BR Carmine and Cream ("Blood and Custard") with gold "Flora" nameplates.
