Lying to the west of the nearby town of Atherstone, Warwickshire, Baddesley Colliery was unusually connected on both sides by rail to Kingsbury to the west and the West Coast Main Line to the east by separate railways. From 1937 it had one of only two Beyer-Garratt locomotives used on a colliery railway. The other being at Sneyd Colliery in Staffordshire. Filmed here in the early 1960s we witness typical operations which involved shunting wagons to and from the WCML and crossing the not-so-busy then, A5 road. A sight almost unimaginable in these days.
