The increasingly difficult task of bagging locomotive haulage at the turn of the millennium was becoming something of a real task and a real bonus to find one in corporate blue livery. That said, opportunity presented itself courtesy of Virgin Cross Country who, to acknowledge their contribution to the railway, decided to paint six of their locomotives in 'retro' colours.
The repaints were 47826 into InterCity Swallow, 47840 into BR blue, 47847 into large logo blue, 47851 into BR two-tone green and 47853 into XP64 blue with red cab sides. In addition to these 47829 was repainted in police livery.
After a days filming at Bristol, 47840 produced on the route back to Birmingham and is shown here as it arrived and departed from Bristol Parkway.
