Description
BRITISH RAILWAYS VINTAGE TRACTION
BR Class 42 Locomotives in Preservation during the Pre-Digital Age
(1988-1994)
Volume BR42-01P
Another feature in this newer series of Vintage Traction from the pre digital era, from the mid 1980's to the turn of the milenium, when the digital age started to put an end to analogue video...
This feature is on the Preservation scene and features the Diesel Hydraulic BR Class 42 (D800 Class) or more commonly referred to as the 'Warship', built between 1958 and 1961, at the Swindon Works. Fitted with two Bristol Sidderley Maybach Engines (MD60), and fitted with two Mekydro Hydraulic Transmissions. These Locomotives worked all over the Western Network from Penzance, to Paddington, Birmingham and the London Waterloo to Exeter route, hauling mainly passenger trains. The 'Warships' were also utilised on China Clay workings in the Cornwall area. Fortunately a few of the class were rescued from the 'cutters' torch and were purchased for preservation.
This feature covers the period from around 1988 to 1994 and the scenes were captured on The Severn Valley Railway and The East Lancashire, plus the North Yorkshire Moors Railway during this period. I do hope you enjoy the feature and please comment and like, if you feel the video was of some enjoyment and nostalgia to watch.
