Clipstone Colliery - Trains no More
Ten years earlier, British Coal, formerly NCB, had seen to its initial closure, only for it to reopen the following year in April 1994 in the hands of RJB Mining. This extended lease of life ensured the survival of the short branch line linking it to the system. Soon after the last remains of coal were removed, the line closed and the track was soon lifted. A visit here to record one of the last remaining trains was made in May 2003 and is seen here departing the colliery.
This video captures a train departing from Clipstone Colliery in Nottinghamshire, shortly before the site's closure. The footage was recorded in May 2003, during the final days of operations at the colliery, which had reopened in 1994 after initial closure by British Coal. The short branch line serving the colliery was eventually dismantled following the removal of coal. A locomotive with stock number 66015 is seen in operation, operated by EWS. The location is noted as Stone.
