Trains to Coventry (Keresley) Colliery & Before the RICOH
This film taken in 1991, initially shows the area which currently overlooks 'Jimmy Hill Way', which at the time of filming, was a brand new road link passing the old gasometers (now the Coventry Building Society Arena). This is followed by typical operations to and from the colliery, starting in 'Three Spires Yard' collecting empties, then showing the road level crossing at Wheelwright Lane.
This video documents scenes from the former Coventry (Keresley) Colliery, which closed in 1994. The footage, filmed in 1991, shows the area around what is now Jimmy Hill Way, then a new road linking to the old gasometers, now the Coventry Building Society Arena. It also captures typical operations involving trains transporting materials to and from the colliery, including scenes at Three Spires Yard and a road-level crossing at Wheelwright Lane. The site remains connected to the UK National Rail Network despite its redevelopment as a distribution park.
