Rails in Wales. Rare clips of scrap units to Caerwent 2005.
Starting on the road bridge at STJ, which is too high to video over the parapet in 2024, we see 2 different trains arrive at STJ to run round their stock and run into Caerwent to drop off their delivery. Both loco departures are captured before moving onto the 2 shunters who come down from the depot to collect the scrap. A long day was involved with detailed knowledge of the roads in the area...but all worthwhile now the area is closed.
This video captures rare footage from 2005 of scrap train movements at Severn Tunnel Junction, heading to Caerwent Defence Rail and Container Services north of Caldicot. It shows two trains arriving to perform shunting operations before departing, with additional scenes of shunters collecting scrap from the depot. The footage was recorded during a long day requiring detailed local knowledge, and the area is now closed. Stock involved includes multiple Class 66 locomotives, though operators are not specified in the record.
Fishplate has identified 4 locomotives in this video. We’ve also matched 5 operators . Create a free account to see where they appear, unlock timestamps and locations, and view the full breakdown.
