50049 ‘Defiance’ + 55009 To Keighley | Timetable B Action & 4150 RUNS To Highley Under Its OWN STEAM
Today I was lucky enough to capture GWR 4150 on one of its first light engine test runs between Bridgnorth and Highley following its incredible restoration.
Originally built at Swindon Works in June 1947, 4150 is a member of the GWR 5101 ‘Large Prairie’ class and has an amazing preservation story. After spending over 50 years out of service and being rescued from Barry Scrapyard in 1973, the locomotive was steamed for the first time in preservation on 1st June 2026, becoming the 154th ex-Barry locomotive to be restored to working order.
It was fantastic to finally witness this locomotive moving under its own power again, especially around Hampton Loade, where I managed to film it during these important test runs ahead of entering service in the near future.
Alongside 4150, there was plenty of action across the railway on Timetable B, including:
🚂 GWR 7714 operating passenger services
🚂 BR Class 20 No. 20048 in service
🚃 Class 101 DMU running services throughout the day
I also recorded footage at Kidderminster Town station, lineside around Hampton Loade, and at Hampton Loade station itself.
After decades of hard work by volunteers and staff, seeing 4150 back in steam is a remarkable achievement and a real milestone in railway preservation history.
Another highlight captured at Kidderminster Town station was the movement of Deltic legend 50049 Defiance, recently returned from the West Somerset Railway before departing for the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway with fellow Class 55 locomotive 55009 Alycidon in tow. It was fantastic to witness this unusual movement and see two iconic heritage diesel locomotives together, creating a real treat for enthusiasts and adding even more variety to an already excellent day on the Severn Valley Railway.
I hope you enjoy the footage! 👍🚂
