Railadventure Class 43s Haul 'Flying Scotsman Number 60103 into Doncaster Wagon Shops

Railadventure owned Class 43 HST power cars number 43468 and 43484 were originally built by British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL) at Crewe Works. These power cars are currently running in corporate Railadventure grey livery, which they received in April 2021 for their specialized mainline rolling stock delivery duties. Each power car was originally built with a 12-cylinder Paxman Valenta 12RP200L engine but was subsequently re-engined by Brush Traction with a modern MTU 16V 4000 R41 power unit. Each engine generates 2,250 brake horsepower, providing a combined diesel power output of 4,500 brake horsepower across both units. These 70-tonne power cars have a maximum operational top speed of 125 mph and deliver a starting tractive effort of 17,984 lbf each. Prior to their current scheme, these power cars carried a sequence of historical liveries over their frontline careers, including original BR InterCity Blue and Yellow, corporate InterCity Swallow, metallic Grand Central Black and Orange stripes, and most recently an East Midlands Trains / East Midlands Railway base blue with red and orange stripes scheme.

National Railway Museum owned mainline support coach number 35468 is a classic British Railways Mark 1 Brake Second Corridor (BSK) vehicle that carries the TOPS designation 99953. Originally built in 1963 at Wolverton Works as a standard passenger carriage, this asset belongs to the National Railway Museum's permanent collection. It is painted in its traditional BR Maroon livery and acts as the dedicated support and crew vehicle for mainline steam transits.

National Railway Museum owned LNER Class A3 4-6-2 Pacific steam locomotive number 60103 "Flying Scotsman" was built in 1923 at Doncaster Works to a design by Sir Nigel Gresley. This historic 97-tonne express passenger icon features a three-cylinder propulsion layout and a boiler pressure of 220 psi, generating a starting tractive effort of 32,910 lbf and an estimated power output of approximately 2,000 indicated horsepower. While it famously became the first steam locomotive to officially achieve an authenticated 100 mph record in 1934, it currently operates under a standard mainline heritage speed restriction of 75 mph. The locomotive is finished in its traditional BR Brunswick Green livery.

Seen here in 8K 16:9 widescreen arriving at Doncaster Station. The unique stock transfer was traveling from Castleton Heywood ground frame on the East Lancashire Railway (ELR) and was bound for the Doncaster Works wagon shops, marking a historic return to the birthplace of the steam locomotive. Power car 43468 led the formation with the BR Maroon support coach and Flying Scotsman sandwiched in the middle, while power car 43484 brought up the rear of the train. This arrival sequence was recorded on the evening of Tuesday 16/06/2026 at exactly 20:08.
