Hanson Penmaenmawr QUARRY - Loading up Colas 70802 with Granite Stone

Trip down the North Wales Coast to Penmaenmawr Quarry to see the loading process of the granite stone.

Colas locomotive 70802 comes off the main line into the quarry sidings were it splits the load into two, runs round and reversing down further in the sidings were loading starts.

Managed to capture the Colas RHTT pass by with perfect timing, with 70802 placed behind.

Penmaenmawr granite quarry is located on the north coast of Wales between Conwy and Bangor on the hillside close to the towns of Penmaenmawr to the east and Llanfairfechan to the west just off the main A55 trunk road. The offices and stock piles are at the bottom while the mineral extraction area is on top of the hill.

There is a long history of quarrying at Penmaenmawr and much evidence of previous working areas. It once supplied granite setts for road paving all over the world via a jetty into Conwy Bay but now produces crushed stone for local markets.
