No.95 Trains Around Werrington Junction May 2023
At the beginning of the month we see class 69's top and tailing the Weed Killer Train at Werrington Junction.
A class 37 is seen on a couple of occassions dragging class 379 units from Ilford to Worksop, a single class 20, 20901 on its way to Ely Papworth Sidings from Derby and plenty of class 66's on freight turns, some of which were diverted from Doncaster via the ECML on the 23rd due to a broken wagon axle on a south bound train which blocked the Up Joint Line just south of Sleaford South Junction. A quick view of the ex-Morgan Sindall site where the dive under build was orchestrated from and now being repurposed for the new Lloyds Data Centre to replace the yellow building in the background.
The tranquility and birdsong at Hurn Road is only temporarily interupted by passing trains, but one stone train probably caused all the wildlife to have to dust themselves down after it passed by. A Stadler class 755, unusual north of Peterborough is returning to Norwich from Derby.
We see 20901 again, now paired up with stablemate 20905 returning to Derby from Ely Papworth Sidings and towards the end of the month there was Colas Rail class 37's on a test train returning from Doncaster on the Joint Line via Peterborough to gain the Stamford Line to Derby.
Rounding off May we see a pair of Colas Rail class 43's, 43274 leading and 43272 at the rear on the New Measurement Train to Kings Cross having toured around the North East all day. Then a VolkerRail tamper coming off the Joint Line from Barnetby to Welwyn Garden City.
