Werrington Junction Upgrade Christmas 2020
With most workers taking their holidays from the 18th December the only action around the Upgrade Project was the renewal and realignment of the Stamford Lines around Walton.
As the switch panels had arrived two weeks previously local people speculated that this work was to install Marholm Junction in readiness to connect the future track that will serve the dive-under. As it turned out this was not the case and it was just new drainage being installed, new track and realigning the OHE on the Down Slow.

This video provides a brief overview of works carried out at Werrington Junction during the Christmas 2020 period. It highlights the renewal and realignment of the Stamford Lines around Walton, as well as the installation of new drainage and adjustments to overhead lines. Local speculation suggested the work might relate to future track connections, but it was confirmed that the focus was on infrastructure improvements rather than new junctions. The project is part of the broader Werrington Grade Separation initiative managed by Network Rail.
