Evening Chaos on the WCML at Carlisle 26 June 2026

Description
Recorded on Friday 26th June at Carlisle Station. It was a very hot day with temperatures reaching 33 degrees. Very hot for these parts. As a result Avanti and TransPennine had issued 'do not travel' advisaries because of possible disruruption due to the head on the infrastructure. However people still wanted to travel.

There was an issue with Overhead wires north of Penrith in the afternoon, holding trains from the north at Carlisle, Lockerbie etc and trains being cancelled. Then other issues meant signallers were regulating trains south with the current practise of passenger trains being held in stations wherever possible to allow them to get off if necessary. I'm not sure where the issues were but they affected adjacent branch lines from Oxenholme, Carnforth, etc.

All the same the freight got through with some delays but not the extremes facing passenger trains.
