BR Blue 1984: The Dore Mat Railtour | Class 40 40024 'Lucania' (Silent Cine Film)
Our footage begins at a freezing Crewe station, where the star of the first half of the tour, Class 40 No. 40024 "Lucitania", backs onto the train. We then follow the tour as 40024 thrashes across the Pennines, concluding this archive clip as the train arrives over at Doncaster where 40033 is attached.
While the tour was famous for its freezing coaches (thanks to 40024's boiler failing early on!), the sight and sound of a named "Whistler" working hard across the north made it an unforgettable day for 1980s railway enthusiasts.
