Description
British Rail Class 43 High Speed Train (HST) Bo-Bo diesel-electric power cars were built between 1975 and 1982 by BREL Crewe Works, holding the world record as the fastest diesel locomotive set in rail history. Originally powered by iconic Paxman Valenta 12RP200L engines delivering 2,250 horsepower each, the fleet was systematically repowered during mid-life refurbishment programs with modern 16-cylinder MTU 16V 4000 R41 turbocharged diesel engines. Retaining an output of 2,250 brake horsepower (1,680 kW) per power car, this two-power-car HST formation produces a massive combined continuous output of 4,500 brake horsepower (3,360 kW) with a maximum operating speed of 125 mph (200 km/h). Operated by Locomotive Services Group (LSG), lead power car 43050 (carrying the official nameplate Loch Morar) and trailing power car 43055 are turned out in retro Nanking Blue and White Midland Pullman livery, reviving the classic luxury and elegance of the legendary 1960s Pullman diesel unit.

Seen here in 8K 16:9 widescreen on a beautiful summer's evening on Wednesday 22/07/2026 at 19:29, power cars 43050 (Loch Morar) and 43055 head "The Settle and Carlisle and Tyne Valley Pullman" railtour working south on its return leg from Carlisle to Potters Bar. The majestic HST set is captured thundering south at high speed past Bracken Hill footbridge on the Selby diversion mainline, delivering a spectacular high-speed pass in the evening sunshine.
