Description
British Rail Class 91 Bo-Bo high-speed electric locomotives were built between 1988 and 1991 by BREL Crewe Works in conjunction with GEC for East Coast Main Line flagship express services. Each locomotive is powered by four body-mounted traction motors delivering an individual continuous power output of 6,480 brake horsepower (4,830 kW) and a starting tractive effort of 45,000 lbf, giving this two-locomotive formation an extraordinary total combined output of 12,960 brake horsepower (9,660 kW). Famously known as the "Electras" or "InterCity 225" power cars, these 81.5-tonne locomotives were engineered for top speeds of 140 mph (225 km/h) and run in daily service at 125 mph. In this pairing, locomotive 91124 is turned out in heritage LNER retro livery, whilst 91110 wears the iconic "Lest We Forget" Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) commemorative livery.

Seen in 8K 16:9 widescreen here on a splendid summer afternoon on Wednesday 22/07/2026 at 17:05, locomotives 91124 and 91110 are captured in a highly unusual and striking top-and-tail two-power-car formation. Blasting through Outwood station in West Yorkshire, the high-speed electric duo is seen working a rare positioning move from Peterborough to Neville Hill Traction and Rolling Stock Maintenance Depot (T&RSMD), delivering a magnificent spectacle of 25kV electric power as they charge down the line.
