A derailment occurred on 7 January 2003 when a Cwmbargoed service derailed at Aberthaw. The incident involved the lifting of locomotive 66148, with other locos including 37408 also recorded. The signal box remains in use as of 2026, though much of the sidings track has been removed. Images were captured by Nick, who was present at the scene, and later discovered by the uploader 23 years after the event.
