Freight Meets Luxury at Goose Hill! EWS Class 66 Number 66119 Passes Class 43 HST Midland Pullman

British Rail Class 66 Co-Co diesel-electric freight locomotives were built by Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) in North America. Nicknamed "Sheds" by rail enthusiasts due to their distinctive roof shape, these heavy-haul locomotives are powered by a 12-cylinder EMD 12N-710G3B-EC turbocharged two-stroke diesel engine delivering 3,300 brake horsepower (2,460 kW) and an immense starting tractive effort of 96,668 lbf. Locomotive 66119 is operated by DB Cargo UK (formerly DB Schenker), but notably retains its classic red and gold English Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS) heritage livery and original EWS branding.

British Rail Class 43 High Speed Train (HST) Bo-Bo diesel-electric power cars hold the world record as the fastest diesel locomotive set in rail history. Originally powered by iconic Paxman Valenta 12RP200L engines delivering 2,250 horsepower each, the fleet was systematically repowered during mid-life refurbishment programs with modern 16-cylinder MTU 16V 4000 R41 turbocharged diesel engines. Retaining an output of 2,250 brake horsepower (1,680 kW) per power car, this two-power-car HST formation produces a combined continuous output of 4,500 brake horsepower (3,360 kW) with a maximum operating speed of 125 mph (200 km/h). Operated by Locomotive Services Group (LSG), power car 43055 leads the formation with power car 43050 (carrying the nameplate "Loch Morar") trailing on the rear, both turned out in retro Nanking Blue and White Midland Pullman livery.

Seen here in 8K 16:9 widescreen on a bright summer's morning on Wednesday 22/07/2026 at 10:15, these two titans of the UK rail network cross paths at Goose Hill foot crossing near Kirkthorpe, Wakefield. DB Cargo UK Class 66 66119 is working a heavy intermodal freight service from Nuneaton (Weymouth Europort) to Felixstowe North, seen heading south towards Wakefield. Passing in the opposite direction, the majestic Midland Pullman HST set headed by 43055 with 43050 "Loch Morar" on the rear is seen heading in a north-east direction while working the outward leg of "The Settle and Carlisle and Tyne Valley Pullman" luxury railtour from Potters Bar to Carlisle.
