Drone Flyover of Leeds Neville Hill Traincare Depot in Yorkshire
Surprised to see so many shunters and turntable hidden away back of the depot. Plenty of LNER Class 91’s on depot considering it was in the week.

Neville Hill Class 08’s. There were 5 shunters there during the visit, 4 EMT liveried and 1 RSS which is on hire

Local history

Neville Hill train maintenance depot in Leeds was built in 1899 and expanded in 1904 by the North Eastern Railway. It was created because the nearby Holbeck shed ran out of space. Over the decades, the facility transitioned from servicing steam engines to diesel and modern multi-unit passenger trains.

Early Years and Steam Era

1899 origin: Built by the North Eastern Railway for £132,971 to handle extra locomotive traffic.
1904 expansion: Extended to fit more steam engines working around Leeds.
Steam hub: Home to famous steam locomotives and local passenger tank engines for many decades.

Modernization and DieselTransition

1960’s shift: Welcomed early diesel locomotives, replacing the old steam operations.
1970s testing: Served as the base for high-speed train (HST) testing on the East Coast Main Line.
Ongoing upgrades: Adapted across generations to stable, fuel, clean, and repair diverse fleets for various rail operators.
