Belmond Britannic Explorer: Saturday Evening at Carlisle 01 August 26

Saturday 1st August and its the evening at Carlisle's Citadel Station. The highlight is the Britannic Explorer train on its Lake District journey. It arrives with class 66s top and tail (actually the rear loco is towed) after going along the Furness line earlier and reversing at Carnforth before heading north. It is now heading for its overnight stop at Appleby. The lead loco at this point, the purple one, will run around the train and both locos then take the train down the Settle Carlisle line. In the morning (Sunday) it sets off before the first southbound service train heading for Ribblehead Viaduct, where it stops to give the well heeled passengers a spectacular view before the journey back to London.

We also see some of the Saturday evening passenger trains but otherwise the station is pretty quiet.
