TransPennine Express 185126 & 185107 at Wigan - 18th October 2024
The class 185s were on a Carlisle to Ardwick depot in Manchester empty stock move but with the twist of running down Settle & Carlisle line and through Clitheroe then Blackburn.
Today was a route retention run for one of the drivers, and also so that they could pass someone else out on the route. Was drivers employed by TPE, but as they work in the Safety Change projects teams - they're 'managers'. So to get round one of the clauses with ASLEF, they run under ROGs safety case hence it appeared as a ROG move. I'm not 100% certain on that may of been TPE drivers.
I've read the reasoning behind this was to test ASDO equipment. They ran north via Bolton and WCML days earlier. Stopped here as Liverpool train couldn't cross junction at the branch as Avanti was late north
Destination blind said Leicester on it amusingly.
In other TPE news supposed route learning for some extra peak Manchester to Oxenholme winter services using 185s on the cards.
I've always really liked the 185s very solid dependable and comfortable trains with impressive power. Just a shame they are only 3 cars long.
A class 185 solo or a pairing did work a railtour on the S&C in 2015 apparently so it's not the first time ever.
The official working today 185126 & 185107
5W32 0944 Carlisle to Ardwick T.M.D
