37425 & 37421 Powering Through Springs Branch - 02nd June 2026
The class 37 was leading the usual Derby to Carlisle test train running 1 late having waited for a late running Liverpool to Blackpool express to join the line. She was paired with 37421 which was at the rear.
This is unusual as class 43s have taken over the train on recent years but from information I've heard I understand this is down to a fuelling issue in Scotland with the HST and we 'might' see 37s on this for a few months.
The official working today 37425 & 37421

A Class 37 diesel electric locomotive, numbered 37425, is shown heading north along the West Coast Main Line and through Springs Branch south of Wigan. It is paired with another Class 37 locomotive, 37421, which was at the rear of the train. The locomotives were operating a test train service from Derby to Carlisle, headcode 1Q47. The video notes that this deployment of Class 37s is unusual, as Class 43s typically handle such services, and may be due to temporary fuelling issues with HST units in Scotland.
