Description
Gbrf Class 66 locomotive 66721 "Harry Beck" is seen heading north along the west coast main line and through Springs Branch south of Wigan on the afternoon of Thursday 23rd July 2026.

The class 66 locomotive was working the Hams Hall at Coleshill to Mossend Glasgow container train here running a few minutes early ahead of a late running Avanti service.

GB Railfreight locomotive 66721 "Harry Beck" wears a unique, dual-sided London Underground tube map livery featuring Harry Beck's original 1933 map on one side and the modern 2013 map on the other. Unveiled on November 5, 2013, to mark 80 years of the iconic map, the all-white design was created in collaboration with the London Transport Museum. Selected alongside 66718 to receive a special London Transport Museum promotional livery, the locomotive was unveiled on 5 November 2013. The design differed on each side and end: one side depicted Beck’s original 1933 Tube map (with the corresponding No.1 end finished in a more yellow tone), while the opposite side displayed the contemporary 2013 Tube map, with a white No.2 end.

While 66718 was repainted in 2023, 66721 continues to operate in its original vinyl livery, although the Europorte element of the GBRf logo has since been removed. The locomotive has also been fitted with a small Wi-Fi pod above the No.2 cab.

Nice to see it again after a few years on what is a mild but dull afternoon.
