158904 & 158793 at Bamfurlong - 26th October 2022
The train was driven by Rail Operations Group and was heading from Carlisle to the Neville Hill maintenance depot near Leeds going the very long way around via Wigan, Crewe, Stoke, Derby and Chesterfield.
Why a Northern driver wasn't used to take the units down the Settle & Carlisle line down to Leeds I'd never know.
The British Rail Class 158 Express Sprinter is a diesel multiple unit (DMU) passenger train. It is a member of the Sprinter series of regional trains, produced as a replacement for British Rail's first generation of DMUs. Built between 1989 and 1992 in 2 and 3 car sets for numerous operators at Derby Litchurch Lane Works.
The class 158 is one of my personal favourite set of DMUs built. I've always loved the 156s more mainly as they are one of the first trains I ever saw at Prescot station as a child.
