37669 Thrashes Through Bamfurlong | 06th August 2026

West Coast Railways Class 37 locomotive 37669 sporting their signature maroon livery is seen powering well with some thrash heading south along the west coast main line and through Bamfurlong south of Wigan on the sunny evening of Thursday 6th August 2026.

The 37 was working the southbound return leg of "The Dalesman" railtour from Carlisle back to Chester which northbound runs via Settle & Carlisle line and south via Penrith and Carnforth.

Due to an ongoing steam locomotive ban this train was diesel hauled throughout it's journey. Fellow WCR locomotive 47813 was at the rear of the train.

In 963 37669 entered service as D6829 built by English Electric at Vulcan Foundry, allocated to Cardiff Canton depot. 1974 renumbered to 37129 under the TOPS classification system. Rebuilt and renumbered as 37669 in August 1987.

Train was 6 late here not too bad despite major disruption Due to a power failure at the Manchester Rail Operating Centre (ROC), there is major disruption on the rail network across Greater Manchester, the north west of England and the Midlands"
